About Us
Dan's background is as varied
as the southwestern landscape. As he was receiving college
degrees in Commercial Illustration (AAS) and Art Production
(BA) in his home state of New York, he first came West
to sea kayak in Alaska. Subsequent employment guiding
backpacking trips at the Philmont Scout Ranch (BSA) in
Cimarron NM ignited a romantic fascination with the west.
After graduation, Dan pursued a career in Environmental
Education, returning to school to receive a degree in
Environmental Science and Education from Prescott College,
AZ. He continued guiding and rafting for a business based
in Mancos CO, and teaching at Crow Canyon Archaeological
Learning Center.
Again looking for a new challenge, Dan started exploring
new employment opportunities. In January 2003, he moved
to Ridgway and opened Fire Ready of Ridgway/Telluride.
This is a good match for Dan - combining a desire to be
physical in the outdoors, talking with people about natural
sciences, and environmental ethics. When not outdoors
working, Dan can be found enjoying the outdoors fly fishing,
telemark skiing, participating in National Ski Patrol,
and Ouray County Search and Rescue.
